Write the vision and make it plain, right? (Part 2 of the #MyFaithFailedMe Series)
Before I dive in, let me tell you how grateful I am that you’re taking some time out of your day to read my transparent series on entrepreneurship & faith. When I was going through this journey I looked for this type of realistic content and to be honest I couldn’t find it. So it makes sense that I provide it from my perspective as you take your own faith walk down entrepreneurship boulevard. There is no right or wrong way to do life. All we have is experiences and to learn along the way. Please read with your heart and not with your brain because math is my first language not english. So bare with me as I take what’s in my brain and put it into digital form.
Every year we are trained to reflect on what we experienced and make a new vision of what we can dom achieve, become or experience for the upcoming calendar year. We really do this in the Christian community. By the way, I do love Jesus, but I refuse to throw it down people’s throats in a way where they HAVE to live a certain life or they die and go to hell. Okay, not back to my point. If you’re like me you have attended church and listened to a sermon on Habakkuk 2:2-3: And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. It’s a great point of reference to not live your life just aimlessly, but to have some sense of direction on where it is that you’re going.
Now if I’m honest most adults don’t even know what they're doing they are just winging it. Very few get their calling, purpose, or sense of direction at the point of birth. It’s something you have to work at, study, and spend time researching within yourself. It’s not something you just derive to overnight. In fact, failing is one of the ways you get closer to your purpose believe it or now. It’s been my journey and now I’m writing this so my words match my actions & sentiments.
In 2019, I too made and declared some huge visions. I was doing my best to make it REAL REAL REAL Plain. I’m talking about I was having dreams, buying courses, and trying my darndest to put into reality my plans of quitting a six-figure job to learn how to make money just being myself. That was the vision. I wanted to get paid to talk, to help, and to contribute to society MY WAY and not the ways society deemed necessary.
Exhibit A: A Mind Map with Goals and Dreams to Get Paid to be Me
If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen this in a post before. If I can explain this drawing. It had what I did every day by being an Engineer at Goldman Sachs, podcaster, and content creator living in NYC. My goal was to PIVOT. At the time I had listened to many podcasts one, in particular, was the “Switch, Pivot or Quit Podcast by Ahyiana Angel”. I was at a stage in my career where Engineering in this space no longer fulfilled me. My desire to grow businesses from the inside out and learn about venture capital at this bank just wasn’t happening. I was not inspired by my job anymore and was beginning to feel stagnant so I wanted a PIVOT even in my head at the time needed it.
My Pivot looked like me creating content at a high scale, focusing on having a more flexible job and time to do things I loved. I mean why wake up every day miserable. Be the change you want to see, sis. That’s what I would tell myself. Have faith and freaking Pivot. That’s what I started 2019 out doing.
I started saving money, making plans to have a lower cost of living, and doing my best to fulfill the visions and dreams I had in my heart. Now listen this was 2019 and we’re now in May of 2022. I have a lot more to unpack here as I plan to do so in my #MyFaithFailedMe Series.
Right now, I want you to ask yourself. Do you have a vision or a plan for your life? Is it going EXACTLY the way you put it down in your vision board? If it’s not don’t fret. What I have discovered is that you don’t need to know the “HOW” you should get to know the “WHAT” and the “WHY”. I cover that here in this video.
If we’re honest with ourselves, we don’t know if what we’re making the vision for is EXACTLY what God wants for our life. In fact, if we knew exactly what we were to do at every moment we wouldn’t even need to have faith because we would already know.
I hope I’m making sense when I write this. Our vision is only as clear as it can be at the time. Give yourself grace that your vision whatever it may be… will manifest over time in the exact perfect way that God grants it to be. Keep your focus on the WHAT & WHY.
I did make the pivot in 2019… But what came with it I would have never imagined. Be sure to check in next week on how the pivot went.
